The highest place on Earth is Mt. Everest in the Nepal-Tibet section of the Himalayas reaching 29,035 feet above sea level. The lowest dry place is the shore of the Dead Sea in the Middle East which is about 1,300 feet below sea level. The deepest place in the ocean is 36,198 feet (6.9 miles) at the Mariana Trench, in the Pacific Ocean, south of Japan near the Mariana Islands.
